JOB SUMMARY
The Mobile Asset Resource will help facilitate the hands-on training of the Mobile Maintenance Crew in the repair and maintenance of the Mobile Assets. Additionally, this role will closely collaborate with Black Rock Station (BRS) Ranch Operations Management and onsite operations.
This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt role based in Gerlach, NV, running from March to November 2026.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintenance (45%)
- Evaluate the condition of all Burning Man Trailers (BMTs) and determine ts.
- Assess, troubleshoot and rectify a variety of problems associated with mobile/trailer living, including, but not limited to: plumbing (PEX and ABS), propane, HVAC, electrical systems, framing, carpentry, siding, and roofing.
- Oversee routine general maintenance and repair of Mobile Maintenance Assets and pre-approved PUAs (e.g., winterizing/dewinterizing, door lock repair, air conditioner cleanings, window replacements/repair, battery tending, fresh water and sewer hook-ups).
- Collaborate to procure specialized parts and equipment needed to perform repairs and upkeep on Mobile Housing Assets and pre-approved PUAs.
- Ensure the safe living condition of all Mobile Housing Assets, and pre-approved PUAs, at all times by monitoring for harmful substances, including mold, animal waste, and water impurities, and verifying the presence of effective carbon monoxide detection and fire prevention equipment.
- Oversee end-of-year processes to adequately prepare all Mobile Housing Assets, and pre-approved PUAs, for winter storage; capture details of any repairs needed over the winter and in the spring.
- Establish and oversee the maintenance of a clean and safe work site; ensure all team members have the necessary safety equipment.
Training, Documentation, and Tracking (35%)
- Write and oversee the production of SOPs for repairs, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance of the fleet. Create those SOPs within MaintainX.
- Develop training standards and procedures for directing technicians and technician apprentices in the safe and effective repairs of all systems and appliances inherent to the Mobile Maintenance fleet.
- Keep an updated record of which trainings have or have not been completed by the technicians and technician apprentices.
- Determine which technicians and technician apprentices are approved for unsupervised repairs of various systems and appliances and report that information to the Mobile Maintenance Technician Manager, Assistant Manager, and Housing Dispatchers.
- Keep a basic inventory of all parts, tools, shop equipment, and other necessary maintenance items. Report any purchasing needs to the manager and assistant manager.
- Accurately document and track repairs in MaintainX; provide up-to-date logs of work and material usage as requested.
- Track average time of the most common repairs within MaintainX to help set realistic expectations.
Logistics (15%)
- Work with the Mobile Maintenance Technician Manager, Mobile Maintenance Technician Assistant Manager, and NVO Housing Manager to facilitate the overview of the BMT fleet and other necessary mobile housing repairs.
- Maintain clear communication with the NVO Housing Dispatch for the safe transportation and delivery of readied Mobile Housing Assets and pre-approved PUAs, as scheduled. Ensure schedules are up to date and obligations are met.
- Ready Mobile Housing Assets, and pre-approved PUAs, for safe and reliable travel between various Burning Man properties and Black Rock City. This will entail moving trailers several times between the different locations based on schedules.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%)
- Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Leadership Toolbox, NVO Compass, Ranch Protocols, and the Mobile Maintenance S.O.P.
- Serve as a mentor, positive role model, and team leader directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job, instructing, and sharing skills as necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work environment and train Mobile Maintenance staff to uphold and practice discretion.
- Work with the Mobile Maintenance Team to plan and execute LNT and Waste disposal plans.
- Perform various other duties as assigned by the Black Rock Station Manager.
LEARNING AND TEACHING
- Documentation - Drives the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to assigned duties.
- Teaching – Takes a leadership role in the acculturation and training of staff. Teaches live or e-learning classes, as requested. Promotes a culture of teaching and learning throughout the community.
- Mentoring - Mentors subordinates in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and experience that will allow them to advance in the organization. Aids, encourages and inspires their team.
- Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
- Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes. Participates in conferences, forums, and networking events, where appropriate.
- Speaking – Represents Burning Man as a subject matter expert and culture-bearer, as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
- Direct experience with 5th Wheel/ Travel Trailer repair and maintenance.
- Experience in, or working knowledge of, metal fabrication, carpentry, HVAC, propane, and residential or commercial electrical and plumbing.
- Understanding of construction scheduling, cost control, and large-scale project management.
- Extensive knowledge of construction methods and/or structural engineering.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead by example, motivate teams and work with a volunteer labor force.
- Working knowledge of Google products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
- Working knowledge of MaintainX.
- Experienced in the use of Google Sketchup or similar CAD software.
- Instills and applies order and cleanliness to the work environment and pays careful attention to detail in handling important information.
- Effectively manages own time; highly organized, able to prioritize, detail-oriented, and motivated.
- Able to recognize the need for and keep confidentiality.
- Physically fit and able to safely lift heavy objects (minimum 50 pounds).
- Willing and able to travel and relocate to Gerlach, NV, for the work season.
PREFERRED
- Experience supervising major projects in remote wilderness and/or desert environments.
- First-Aid knowledge.
- It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.
- RVIA certification.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
COMPENSATION:
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $20.00 to $22.00 per hour.

This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
