JOB SUMMARY
The Central Services Transportation Supervisor is responsible, in coordination with the other Supervisors, to support 21hr Transpo Supervisor coverage during the Burning Man event in Black Rock City. In addition to the oversight of the on-playa shift coverage for drivers and vehicle readiness, Supervisors will be expected to assist with planning and building schedules in the off-season for all Transpo operations on behalf of Central Services in the GPE department. Supervisors will also assist with recruiting new drivers for the department and verifying DOT readiness and maintenance status of the vehicles assigned to Transpo.
This is a temporary, full-time, Exempt role, based in Black Rock City, Nevada running from August to September, 2026.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Overseeing and Managing the Transpo Schedules for all Shift Leads and Drivers.
- Support the daily safety inspections of all buses in the morning and immediately report any concerns to the Auto Shop.
- Run meetings as required for Shift Leads and Drivers for Transpo.
- Ensure adequate staffing coverage is provided.
- Coordinate and confirm driver coverage for pop-up shift requests from Burning Man Staff.
- Confirm as required that all driving shifts are scheduled and staffed accurately.
- Act as Shift Lead and Drive Transpo Shifts as required.
- Work independently.
- Support the maintenance of a clean and safe worksite.
- Confirm all Leads and Driver credentials and DOT medicals are current.
- As needed, participate in Team Meetings and maintain related correspondence.
- Participate in Managers’ Meetings as required, create reports, and maintain related correspondence as necessary.
- Be familiar and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies.
- Monitor personal well-being, be aware of work expectations, and proactively address any concerns with manager.
- Monitor the well-being of staff and set manageable work expectations. Address and escalate any Personnel issues to People Operations if needed.
- Serve as a mentor, positive role model, and team leader directing driving and shift lead staff as they work, identifying the best people for the job, instructing and sharing skills as necessary.
- Establish and oversee the maintenance of a clean and safe worksite
- Regularly oversee comprehensive department driving and shift lead schedules and effectively assign tasks.
- As needed, submit receipts and any expense reports, ensuring forms are complete and submitted on time.
- Assist with the creation of written guides and protocols which enhance the efficiency of the Transpo processes.
- Prepare written feedback to the Manager of Central Services describing the successes of the season and areas in need of improvement with the purpose of improved overall efficiency and suggestions within the season’s review period.
- Perform various other duties as assigned by direct managers.

- Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
- Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes. Participates in conferences, forums, and networking events, where appropriate.
- Speaking – Represents Burning Man as a subject matter expert and culture-bearer, as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Valid CDL Class A or B driver’s license with passenger endorsement is a requirement, with a clean driving record, and able to be insured by Burning Man.
- Ability to pass and maintain currency with a DOT medical and a clean driving record.
- Working knowledge of GPE operations.
- Trained in and current in driving large buses with current Class B CDL with Passenger/Air Brakes endorsement and current DOT medical.
- Able to lead by example, motivate, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must have been to Burning Man and be familiar with its culture.
- Knowledge of Burning Man, Black Rock City (BRC), and its departments.
- Effectively manages own time, the time of individual team members, and the efforts of the team as a whole.
- Working knowledge of Google products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive) and Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to learn and work with the technology.
- Instills and applies order to the work environment and pays careful attention to detail in the handling of important information.
- Clearly and concisely communicates verbally and through written correspondence. Tailors communication to receiving party with appropriate professionalism. Must be able to lead by example, motivate, and have excellent interpersonal skills. Experienced and comfortable with using 2 way radios.
- Able to accept potentially critical feedback and act calmly and effectively in tense situations.

Preferred
- Have worked as a Shift Lead or Driver in the department for 2+ years prior to reaching the Supervisor level.
- Experience supervising schedules in remote wilderness and/or desert environment.
- Experience with festival or entertainment production work-sites.
- Availability on playa for the duration of the time the GPE GO Box is open (August 23rd - September 7th).

COMPENSATION:
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated salary range for this position is $860- $870 per week.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- On-playa: This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance.
