JOB SUMMARY
Burning Man is seeking an IT/RF specialist to join Burning Man IT Operations and contribute to the installation and support of the long distance microwave links and networks between Gerlach and Black Rock City.
This is a temporary, full-time, Exempt role, based in Black Rock City, Nevada running from August to September, 2025.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
PERCENTAGE OF TIME SPENT
- RF equipment and antennas installation and alignment (50%)
- RF link production support (40%)
- Other functions and responsibilities (10%)
LEARNING AND TEACHING
This role may require the employee to contribute to the growth of the Burning Man Project’s knowledge base. This may include such tasks as:
- Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
- Knowledge sharing – Help educate users and answer questions regarding the hardware and software tools they are using to achieve their objectives.
- Training development - Assist in the development of training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate would meet all the qualifications listed below. However, the ability to learn quickly is more important than in-depth knowledge in all areas.
REQUIRED
This section should include the required educational background, work experience, skills, knowledge and abilities. These specifications disqualify candidates from consideration if they do not meet them.
- Ability to work safely on lifts at heights up to 100 ft
- Ability to mount and align RF dishes and equipment up to 40 lbs
- Ability to work in an often dusty, hot environment.
- Able to lift and carry computers and peripheral devices to and from work sites
- Ability to adjust schedule seasonally to work at the Burning Man event held in Nevada.
PREFERRED
- Basic knowledge and understanding of IP and Ethernet networking, including:
- Experience with wireless PtP and PtMP networking (AirFiber, AirMax)
- IP network services (ICMP, ARP, etc)
- Ethernet fundamentals and cabling schemes
- WiFi (802.11) fundamentals, including channels, SSIDs, and security considerations
- Posses OSHA 10 certification
- Familiar with R56 grounding standard
- Strong project and time management skills
- Dedicated to providing quality service
- Strong documentation skills
- Detail oriented, reliable and dependable
- Comfortable juggling tasks and priorities
- Knowledgeable of Burning Man and able to work in Nevada before, during and after the event
- It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and is familiar with its culture

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
COMPENSATION:
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $1000 to $1200 per week.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
