JOB SUMMARY

This is a seasonal role that is responsible for supporting Exodus operations with all aspects of egress operations pertaining to the flagging operations that are run by GPE. Job duties include taking direction from Flagging Supervisors, following all safety guidelines that are laid out by the Flagger Certification Training, informing the shift’s Supervisor and/or Manager On Duty of situations that arise during operations, and communications with other operational groups as needed.

 

This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt role, based in Black Rock City, Nevada running from August to September, 2025.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Duties (95%)

  • Ensure that all equipment necessary for flagging operations is in acceptable condition for use and repairing or reporting items that are unacceptable.
  • Follow all safety guidelines laid out in the Flagger Certification Training.
  • Must carry valid flagging certification credentials on person during operations.
  • Attend the All Flagger Meeting on playa during Event Week.

 

Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%)

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


LEARNING AND TEACHING

  • Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
  • Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
  • Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
  • Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.


QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED 

  • Ability to adjust schedule seasonally to work at the Burning Man event held in Nevada
  • 1 year of experience in the GPE department
  • Be able to attend and pass Flagger Certification Training on site pre-event or during event as needed
  • Be available for the entirety of Exodus Operations at the end of the event
  • Be available for meetings by phone or in person as needed
  • Be available to occupy a flagger position if need arises
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by Burning Man Project

 

PREFERRED 

  • It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Current flagger certification recognized by Nevada. (Training available on site)


 

COMPENSATION: 

Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $23.00 to $25.00 per hour.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • On-playa: This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
